chemlok® 6125 adhesive
chemlok® 6125 adhesive
Chemlok6125 is a lead-free topcoat adhesive, used in conjunction with Chemlok205 primer adhesive. This adhesive system utilizes the curing process of elastomers to bond uncured elastomers to metals and other rigid substrates. This product is a mixture of polymers, organic compounds and mineral fillers dissolved and dispersed in an organic solvent system.
Chemlok 205 primer helps to ensure the environmental resistance of the adhesive and the adhesion between the adhesive and the substrate.

Features and Benefits

Wide range of uses - used in conjunction with primer Chemlok205 to bond a variety of rubber (such as NR, SBR, NBR, IR, BR) with metal and other hard substrates.
Environmentally Friendly - Significantly reduces environmental emissions of heavy metals.
Excellent Appearance - The film has a continuous and uniform appearance.

Instructions

SURFACE PREPARATION - Thoroughly clean metal surfaces before applying adhesive. Use solvent-based degreasers or alkaline cleaners to remove protective oils, cutting oils and grease from metal surfaces. Choose appropriate chemical cleaning and mechanical cleaning methods to remove rust and oxide layers on metal surfaces.

  • Chemical cleaning Chemical treatment can be used for metal parts that will be deformed during sandblasting or where the tolerance requirements are very strict. Phosphating is a common chemical treatment method for steel, and conversion coating is usually used for aluminum.
  • mechanical cleaning
Sandblasting is the most common method of mechanical cleaning. In addition, mechanical cleaning methods include steel brush cleaning, grinding or machining. Use steel grit to blast steel, cast iron or other ferrous metals. For stainless steel, aluminum, brass, zinc, and other non-ferrous metals use aluminum oxide, sand, or other non-ferrous metal grit.

Stirring - Before applying Chemlok 6125 Adhesive to the base coat, please stir the adhesive thoroughly and evenly. It also needs to be fully stirred during use to keep the solid content in a uniform state. Agitate as recommended below for pack size to ensure an even blend and a consistent appearance.

  • 1-5 Gallon Pails - Agitate by hand first, then with an air agitator for 15-60 minutes.
  • Application - Apply by brush, dip, roller or spray. Chemlok 6125 is used for brushing, dipping, rolling and generally does not dilute. For spraying, thin with toluene or xylene to a viscosity of 22-28 seconds using a Zahn#2 viscosity cup. Dilutions are typically 25-50%. The optimal film thickness of the adhesive depends on the rubber formulation and the required adhesion. Regardless of the application method, the recommended dry film thicknesses are as follows:

Chemlok 205 5.1-10.5 micron (0.2-0.4 mil)

Chemlok 6125 12.7-25.4 micron (0.5-1.0 mil)

Drying/Vulcanization - Air dry at room temperature for 30-60 minutes (16-32°C). Extend drying time if humidity is high. Drying times can be shortened by preheating metal parts or drying after coating. Metal parts can be preheated up to 60°C before applying the adhesive. If dry spraying or wire drawing occurs, the preheating temperature of the metal should be lowered. The drying temperature should be properly controlled, and can be dried at a temperature as high as 93°C in a short period of time. Use lower temperatures and higher air circulation for best drying results. Chemlok6125 coating film is non-sticky after drying, so coated objects can be stacked in trays for subsequent processing. Wear clean gloves when handling coated objects, and cover the tray to prevent contamination. If the object is properly protected, it can be stored for up to 30 days after the coating is completed and before it is applied. The curing of Chemlok 6125 is carried out simultaneously with the curing of the rubber.

to clear

Clean up spilled liquid with a dry cloth. Use antistatic equipment and diluted solvent to remove dry material from surfaces.
